Dickey, a long-time advocate for educational reform, brings a wealth of experience in leadership, fundraising, and grassroots organizing to help advance school choice initiatives in Texas.
Thanks to Tuesday’s election results, there are now more than the needed 76 votes in the Texas House for school choice. That is because during this election cycle, 16 new legislators who support school choice replaced outgoing members who opposed school choice. Dickey is excited to join LFTK and support the Governor and the many other organizations that have helped ensure those needed votes so that Texas parents have more options.
Governor Abbott’s strong leadership on school choice reflects the strong bipartisan support for expanded educational opportunities in Texas. As he said, Texans across political lines and racial backgrounds agree on one critical issue: parents should have the freedom to make the best educational choices for their children. Liberty For The Kids shares this vision and has been at the forefront of advocating for policies that empower parents and improve educational outcomes for all children, regardless of their background.
“School choice is not a partisan issue — it’s a parental rights issue,” said Governor Abbott in his address. “The time to act is now, and we must ensure every Texan has the opportunity to receive the quality education they deserve.”
James Dickey is known for his leadership in advancing conservative values and his longterm commitment to public service. As Executive Director, Dickey will oversee LFTK’s grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and fundraising in the push for strengthening parental rights in Texas education. His extensive network of supporters and expertise in policy advocacy will help LFTK build the momentum necessary to pass vital school choice legislation in the 2025 Texas legislative session.
“I’m honored to join Liberty For The Kids and to work alongside long-time school choice leaders like Kent Grusendorf, who founded and shaped the direction of this incredible organization,” said Dickey. “Together, we will work tirelessly to ensure that every Texas parent has the right to choose the best educational option for their child, and that every Texas child has access to the opportunities they deserve.”
Kent Grusendorf, founder of Liberty For The Kids, expressed his excitement about Dickey joining the team. “James’ experience, commitment, and dedication to advancing school choice will be critical as we build a future where all families can make the educational choices that best meet their children’s needs.”
Liberty For The Kids also acknowledges the invaluable support of its board members, including education and policy leaders Rod Paige, Allan Parker, John Shields, Jim Windham, Don McAdams, and Cheryl Bean.
As the fight for school choice intensifies in Texas, Liberty For The Kids is poised to play a critical role in shaping the conversation and advocating for policies that will give Texas parents the freedom to choose the best education for their children, whether that’s through public, charter, private, or homeschooling options.
